CineGlobe 2024 - Opening night: Universe in a Grain of Sand
Join us for the premiere of "Universe in a Grain of Sand", an innovative documentary directed by Mark Levinson from 2024.
Quantum computing is on the cusp of becoming a fountain of technological innovation. And while it can be viewed in the context of classical computing, it in fact demands an entirely new way of thinking about computers - one that almost harkens to the analog era. Experimental filmmakers have in their turn been using sometimes arcane analog processes to make groundbreaking works that couldn’t be imagined by a computer. Where do these two disciplines intersect? Universe in a Grain of Sand is a both a documentary about potentially the biggest breakthrough since the transistor, and also about how technology and art are constantly being developed to help us understand our world.
The screening will be followed by a discussion (in English) with director Mark Levinson and two experimental filmmakers featured in the film: Maria Constanza Ferreira and Erin Espelie.
The first 50 people to register will be invited to an aperitif following the programme, in the presence of the filmmakers, the CineGlobe team, and visiting festival guests.

Venez assister à la première de « L'univers dans un grain de sable », un documentaire innovant réalisé par Mark Levinson en 2024.
L'informatique quantique est sur le point de devenir une source d'innovation technologique. Bien qu'elle puisse être considérée dans le contexte de l'informatique classique, elle exige une toute nouvelle façon de penser les ordinateurs, qui renvoie presque à l'ère analogique. Les cinéastes expérimentaux ont à leur tour utilisé des procédés analogiques parfois obscurs pour réaliser des œuvres révolutionnaires qui n'auraient pas pu être imaginées par un ordinateur. Où ces deux disciplines se croisent-elles ? L'univers dans un grain de sable est à la fois un documentaire sur ce qui pourrait être la plus grande avancée depuis le transistor, et sur la façon dont la technologie et l'art sont constamment développés pour nous aider à comprendre notre monde.
La projection sera suivie d’une discussion (en anglais) avec le réalisateur Mark Levinson et deux cinéastes expérimentatrices qui figurent dans le film : Maria Constanza Ferreira and Erin Espelie.
Les premières 50 personnes inscrites seront invitées à un apéro suivant le programme, en présence des cinéastes, l’équipe CineGlobe, et les invité.e.s du festival.
